DeskMC™ HD

Here's some pictures that have been maturing for a couple of years, I think it's about time they were posted. These machines were built to order for some very patient customers. Travels ~330 x 230 x 230 mm XYZ, brushless servos and ground ball screws all round, on THK caged ball linear bearings, running Granite Devices VSD drives.

Pardon the mess...

Beautiful milling machines. I like the new enclosure for the Granite drives.

Please post more pictures if possible.

Fantastic work as usual Jason. Drive enclosure looks great. Do you get any heating issues? Also have you looked into their new Argon drives?

Thanks Jan, Jack and Wheldon :) I appreciate the kind words, I'll try for some more pictures before too long!

I haven't had any heating issues at all. There's a small (40mm) 12v fan in there and that seems to be more than sufficient to keep the heat under control.

I'm looking forward to the new Argon drive! Any day now, surely :) The VSD-E will likely continue to be our first choice for multi-axis drive situations where the cost of the power supply is less significant on a per drive basis, but I expect to use the Argon for spindle/headstock applications where we really need higher voltages to keep currents sensible at the higher rotational speeds. In those applications it'll let us control speed and position more closely than a VFD and should open up the opportunity to do things such as rigid tapping which would really be something special on a desktop machine.
